The family of slain Democratic National Committee (DNC) staffer Seth Rich filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Fox News and two of its staffers for publishing a story tying Rich’s death to a conspiracy theory.
The lawsuit claims that Fox News reached out to the Rich family under false pretenses to support reporting that Rich leaked DNC emails to WikiLeaks, according to ABC News, who obtained a copy of the suit.
Fox News ran a story in 2016 that pushed a conspiracy theory that Rich’s death was liked to Hillary ClintonHillary Diane Rodham ClintonWoman behind pro-Trump Facebook page denies being influenced by Russians Trump: CNN, MSNBC ‘got scammed’ into covering Russian-organized rally Pennsylvania Democrats set to win big with new district map MORE’s presidential campaign and the release of the campaign’s hacked emails by WikiLeaks.
The story prompted a massive outcry, including from Rich’s family.
Fox retracted the story in May 2017.
